Thursday's rant continued

This is the mother of all rants. I called to make some changes to my auto insurance this afternoon and it appears that if I was to stop traveling to and from work, the cost of my insurance will increase by $3.00 a month because I will no longer be eligible for a discount. In other words if I use my car less; bus , walk or bike to work and thus do my part in decreasing pollution - my car insurance will go up. Crazy, isn't it? The auto insurance industry is actually encouraging people to burn more gasoline by giving them discounts. I had no idea about this until I called today and asked. The agent I spoke with was very eloquent and clearly explained to me many other aspects of automobile insurance that had me dumbfounded till this afternoon. Get this, if you are driving along and swerve to avoid collision with another vehicle or an animal and you end up going into the ditch or rolling your car, you are totally at fault and responsible for the accident and deal with the consequences of your defensive driving, which may have led you to a single vehicle accident. If you die, well then you won't be liable but then who knows if your benefactors will get anything from the company. If you don't avoid the collision and hit the idiot in front of you or the animal that gets in your way, then it's the idiot's or the animal's fault but then you may not live to reap the benefits of that because colliding with a deer or another car can be quite deadly. I don't see the logic in any of this so if you happen upon this rant and can explain this to me further - I'll owe you.

another driving rant

I'm driving to work this month and already I feel as though I've aged 5 years. Who says smoking is bad for you - driving it worse.
This morning I dropped Julia off at school and had to drive in the School Zone (40K limit) for about 1Km. As soon as pulled out of the drop-of zone, a red mini van approached behind me and insisted on tailing me all the way down Knoxdale, swerving left to right as though trying to pass me. I could feel her impatient glare drilling into the back of my head. Finally when the road became 2 lanes, she did pass me to beat me to the red light. She was heading into a Tim Horton's for a double-double and a boston cream - no doubt!
